HONORING OUR FORGOTTEN HERO
Navy Pilot, CAPT. E. Royce Williams, USN, Retired
We were not at war with the Soviet Union, yet on November 18, 1952, we came close to the brink of World War III. In the only known instance of a Soviet-ordered attack on the American military, seven Soviet MIGs suddenly and without warning attacked the US Navy Pacemaker squadron, led by Royce William’s off the North Korean coast. Classified Top Secret for 50 years, the story can now be told of William’s heroism and superb airmanship. Even though the MIGs were far superior to William’s F9F-5 aircraft, he downed 4 of them and forced the 3 survivors to retreat. 263 bullet holes later, Royce miraculously survived and landed his crippled aircraft on the carrier Oriskany.
Come meet our Forgotten Hero, Captain Royce Williams and join us for a documentary film presentation and panel discussion regarding William’s heroism, extraordinary aerial engagement and the Korean War.
